This simple scone recipe is a winner for all the family. Easy and fun for kids of all ages, or just to bake at home on your own. It’s a great way to bond while baking and breaks up some of the day, especially while on lockdown.
Below I’ve posted our super simple recipe for plain scones. If you prefer you can add in dried fruit or raisins once your dough is ready.
250g self raising flour
25g caster sugar
dried fruit or raisins if you prefer
Step 1 – pre-heat your oven to 220 degrees. Lightly grease a baking tray and leave it to the side for later.
Step 2– add the flour and sugar to the bowl then add chunks of butter in to the mix. Using your hands to mix, create a crumble texture. Next, add a pinch of salt.
Step 2 – slowly add the milk to create dough and knead together. If you want to add raisins or other dried fruits do it at this point.
Step 3 – add some flour to your work surface and knead the dough to around 2cm thick. Use a cookie cutter to create your scone shapes until all the dough is used then place in to the greased tray.
Step 4 – beat an egg and glaze your scone shapes before placing in the oven.
Step 5 – place in the centre of the oven for around 12-15 mins. Once cooked remove and leave to cool at the side.
Step 6 – add your favourite topping such as butter, cream or jam (or a combination!) and enjoy!
