*****Amazing photographer!! Danya’s pictures of Calum for his newborn shoot were great. It was the first time I had done a newborn shoot and it was lovely. Danya’s focus was on Calum and making sure he was comfy and not in any distress. She is very welcoming and is fabulous with children, my two older children were there for this shoot also and got in on the act which they loved being part of and Danya made sure they were involved. Calum came back for his sitter session and again Danya was warm and welcoming and just knew how to get the pictures she wanted to take and Calum was more than happy to oblige. We have not long done his cake smash and I was unsure what to expect having not done one. But I completely loved the layout Danya had prepared and his cake was lovely too. We carried on the the rainbow theme from his newborn shoot as Calum is my rainbow baby having lost my daughter. Danya also photographed my daughter for which I am eternally grateful to have such beautiful pictures to treasure forever. Thank you so much Danya.
Baby Calum came to the studio for his 1st birthday Cake Smash Shoot first visited the studio for his newborn shoot when he was just a tiny baby. I’d photographed his older brother and sisters in previous years so already knew the family quite well and was lovely to have them back. Unfortunately not all of the family were there though. Calum’s big sister Isla sadly passed away before he was born. I had photographed Isla a few times as a baby and loved watching her grow from a little baby in to a beautiful young girl. She was one of the smiliest and happiest babies I’d ever met. So full of personality and charisma at such a young age. Isla was born with Downs Syndrome and as a result suffered from pulmonary hypertension. Devastatingly Isla passed away at the age of just 2 and half years old. I still to this day think about her often, her little smile will never my thoughts.
Some time had passed and Erin had got in touch to say she was expecting again and wanted to book a newborn photo shoot for when the baby arrives. We discussed setups and one of her requests was to include something rainbow related. A rainbow baby is a baby born after miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. The term is a comes from the rainbow that follows the storm in real life and is used to represent hope. I had the perfect prop in mind for his session that would give a subtle nod to his big sister.
Calum then returned for his little sitter session when he reached the milestone of sitting up on his own – one of my favourite stages to capture! Just like his newborn shoot, Calum was amazing for his Sitter Session. There were lots of laughs, giggles, clapping handies & singing! It was amazing seeing how much he’d grown and changed since being a tiny newborn baby and I’m so lucky to be a part of that for so many families!
I could barely believe it when Erin got in touch approaching Calum’s 1st Birthday, a whole year already? Crazy! Anyway, we got chatting and began throwing around some ideas and themes for his Cake Smash Shoot. We managed to narrow it down and it was a toss up between the Gruffalo or Cat in the Hat. I then threw a curve ball and suggested a rainbow themed Cake Smash. It was bright, colourful and tied in with his newborn session and the fact he is in fact a rainbow baby! I’m so glad Erin was up for the idea and trusted me to design something special for her.
I knew we had to keep it all fitting together with the cream/neutral background so all the images would flow nicely when displayed together so I stuck with the cream backdrop and a burst of colour with rainbow balloons and cake from my talented cake maker Lick the Bowl Cakes.
